Brewview#11: Citmo by Resurgence Brewing Company

Coming at you with my 11th Brewview, is Citmo by Resurgence Brewing Company. This was a recommendation by a co worker of mine after reading my Head in the Clouds Brewview. So this is one is dedicated to you Bill, thanks for the insight I hope you enjoy what you read here! This will be my second beer from Resurgence and I am sure there will be many more to come from this excellent brewery.

The Beer: Citmo by Resurgence Brewing Company

ABV: 6.5% IBU: None found

Hop Profile: Citra

Malt Profile: I was unable to find

Before going into what I think of this beer I will give you direct quote from Resurgence located on the can.

“Strong aromatics of white grapefruit and citrus dominate the nose on this New England IPA. Take your tongue to the Green Mountains with hints of pine and resin dancing with spicy tropical fruit flavors, balanced out by the hop bitterness that characterizes the style.”

Excellent way to build the anticipation! So without further ado, here we go!

Whoa, just cracking the can open I am slammed in the face with aromas coming from both hops! Both the Citra and Mosaic hops are known for their citrus and tropical aromas, everything that I am smelling with this beer! Delicious! To be even more specific I am getting a stronger mango smell along with some accents of grapefruit. It’s refreshing just to smell this beer, can’t wait to see what it tastes like. So far this beer is on its way to victory!

Going from aroma to appearance, this beer is dressed to impress! Color-wise, this beer is a golden straw color, leaving you the ability to see through it for the most part. It’s not crystal clear but it is definitely far from being called hazy. On top of this enticing beer is a noteworthy head that seems to be sticking around for the party. I have not found one thing wrong with this beer so far. It is easily seen that the brewers at Resurgence know what they are doing!

Now with all that build up, my taste buds are screaming for this beer. Wow! I must say, though I am not surprised at this, this beer taste exactly how it is described on the can! Three major flavors right off the bat: pine, grapefruit, and mango. Delicious and refreshing. I am finding it quite difficult to figure out which hop I can attribute to these flavors. (Mostly due to the fact that both hops are very similar in every description.) Both have similar aroma and flavor profiles, mostly characterized as mango, citrus, and tropical fruit. Even their alpha acid percentages are almost the same, Citra 11-13% and Mosaic 10-15%. With that being said I am not getting as strong as a bitterness as I would have thought with the somewhat higher alpha acid percentages. I guess they weren’t used for that purpose, goes to show how versatile hops can be when used by such knowledgeable brewers. To be honest, the slight bite I am sensing at the end has a pine taste to it but disappears almost instantly. Leaving you craving for more. Not a bad characteristic for a beer to have, especially when it is such a delicious and easy-to-drink beer.

Though I am not as big a fan of New England Style IPAs as some, this would have to be one of my favorites. It pays off not to be closed minded when it comes to beer; not every beer is the same. With that being said my rating for this beer is a solid 4.5/5. Like I said before, New England IPAs are not something I go crazy for, but this is such a delicious and refreshing beer I would recommend it to anyone. Honestly, it would be hard to pass this one up at the beer store or any bar that I may see it at. I guess I owe a lot to my buddy Bill, thank you so much for the recommendation I truly enjoyed writing this as well as drinking the beer. I must say I am very excited that I have one more of these left for tonight! Great job Resurgence!!

Any more recommendations Bill?
