Got something new for everyone, a brewery which I have yet to write about, Other Half Brewing Company. Other Half is originally stationed in Brooklyn, New York, but some time ago decided to venture into Western New York to see what we’re all about. I recently read that come mid-March which is soon to be here Other Half is optimistic they will have a second taproom and brewery in Rochester, New York. Till they are fully operational they have can sales on Fridays and Saturdays at the new Rochester location. With mid-March quickly approaching I’m hoping Other Half will be right on schedule.
Till then, I was lucky enough to obtain Triple Citra Daydream from my good friend Tyler who made the drive and offered to pick me up a couple pints. Thanks, Tyler without you this would not have been possible.
Come to think of it, I haven’t had many Other Half beers before. My first time trying Triple Citra Daydream was after a long day at work and it sure calmed my nerves. But from what I can remember the few I’ve had were noteworthy. Hopefully in the near future I can find my paths crossing with the Rochester taproom.
Brewer’s Notes
‘Triple Citra Daydream! You know the drill: oats, lactose and triple dry hopped with Citra and Citra Lupulin powder.’
Just from that I’m thinking citrus/mango aroma and flavor, hanging on a sweet side, and holding some creamy characteristics with the oats.
Let’s see what the future holds!
The Beer: Triple Citra Daydream Imperial Oat Cream India Pale Ale by Other Half Brewing Company
ABV: 10.5% IBU: N/A
Hops: Citra
Citra Lupulin Powder
Malts and Other Ingredients: Oats
Lactose
Let the Daydream Begin
The first thing to notice about Triple Citra Daydream is that it is hazy as fuck! It reminds me of a combination between orange and pineapple juice. The pale straw color and incredible haze provides a very enticing and provocative appearance to the beer. Which I am sure comes from the Oats. Though it doesn’t really boast any head retention, which would be the topper for me, the aromas back up the incredible hazy appearance. Overall you get a combination of mango, citrus, and a sweeter side maybe from the Lactose. Though I am really not sure, I’m still learning what Lactose brings to the table. More specifically though the mango holds it’s ground being the star aroma with a touch of a citrus bite to it. The sweeter aroma I guess you could say revolves around the beer, similar to the earth around the sun. Very nice combination, really brings about an overall refreshing image to Triple Citra Daydream.
Let’s Drink
Similar to the aromas, the flavor combination of this beer matches its appearance. Before I go any further, Triple Citra Daydream is made for Buffalo summers. This would be an excellent beer after pulling a hard day of labor under the hot sun. Just please exercise caution, it is 10.5% ABV after all.
Seriously though, the first thing I am getting slammed with is mango from beginning to end. Besides the mango, in the beginning I am picking up on a strong citrusy bite which then gives way to a smooth sweet ending. It’s extremely easy to pick up on the Citra hops and Lupulin powder. What is truly amazing is how the flavor changes from beginning to end. Though I was unable to find any IBU rating, I imagine it would be low. The only bitterness I experienced was in the beginning with the citrusy bite. It’s there and then flows into a creamy Lactose sweetness(that may sound weird but that is all I could think of). Very refreshing and very nice.
The aftertaste isĀ nothing but worthy of mentioning. Take all three flavors from the ingredients and bring them together into a perfect combination. Sweet mango, creamy mouthfeel, and a very small citrus bite. Takes a perfect beer and gives it the perfect send off, if anything it leaves you wanting more.
Though this beer is 10.5% ABV I am finding it difficult to get any sense of that when drinking. Very smooth for a Imperial India Pale Ale. Dangerously delicious, maybe a small caution sign should be placed on the can next to the Other Half logo.
Finishing Touches
I don’t always buy into the craze of hazy IPAs mainly because in my experiences people see hazy and they automatically go crazy over the beer. But that doesn’t mean I won’t give one a try when our paths cross, and Triple Citra Daydream is the reason for that. Not all hazy IPAs are created equal, I’ve had some that down right suck and I’ve had some that make themselves noteworthy and rise above the rest. Hmmm…maybe this is a future blog topic.
But truthfully, Triple Citra Daydream does not fall in line with the subpar hazy IPA category. I am very particular about hazy IPAs, like I said. Even though the market is saturated with them now, but I will say Triple Citra Daydream is on my ‘Drink Again’ list. It has some very unique characteristics to it that makes it stick out and says ‘buy another pint’!
Thanks for reading! Keep the beer flowing!
Cheers to my good friend Tyler, this couldn’t exist without you! ā¤
See you soon Other Half!
